Protecting Road Electric Vehicles Ecosystem through Enhanced Cyber Resilience and Networked Threat Mitigation

Project Summary
PREVENT – Protecting Road Electric Vehicles Ecosystem through Enhanced Cyber Resilience and Networked Threat Mitigation
Cyberattacks targeting electric vehicles (EVs), charging stations, and grid-connected mobility systems are increasing in frequency and complexity, threatening Europe’s digital, energy, and transport resilience. PrEVent delivers Europe’s first end-to-end cybersecurity framework for the e-mobility ecosystem, aligned with the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), NIS2, ISO/SAE 21434, and UNECE R155/156 to protect EVs, EVSE, backend platforms, roaming, and grid interfaces. PrEVent provides a modular, standards-based architecture and advanced solutions for preparation, prevention, detection, and response to cyber threats. These include guidelines for secure-by-design hardware and software, hardened EVSE hardware and firmware, post-quantum PKI, OTA mitigation strategies, and an AI-enhanced digital twin for dynamic threat detection and simulation. Reinforcement learning-powered decision support systems enable self-healing capabilities and guidance for incident response and recovery. A novel shift-left comprehensive testing methodology will ensure the robustness of the PrEVent solutions before they are integrated and tested in real-world environment. PrEVent will demonstrate its solutions at four real-life pilot sites across Europe, covering car-sharing, public charging, logistics fleets, and bus depots.
Complementary training programmes will prepare the future cybersecurity workforce and upskill operators, public authorities, and procurement teams on cybersecurity risks and CRA compliance. The project will also deliver business models and an EU-wide exploitation roadmap for PrEVent results to ensure wider adoption by CPOs, OEMs, DSOs, and service providers. PrEVent strengthens EU leadership in trusted, cybersecure zero-emission mobility and directly supports the 2ZERO Partnership’s goals of climate neutrality, digital sovereignty, and transport resilience.
